Why does gmail open instead of outlook when I click an email link?

since I set up google apps, when I click an email link on a webpage, it goes to the gmail page. It used to open an outlook message. I checked the settings in internet options, and it says that outlook is the mail program. (Control Panel -%26gt; Internet Options -%26gt; Programs -%26gt; E-Mail:)

email messages have ".eml" extensions.and gmail,in your case, is the designated (outlook is the default) program to open all .eml files.


so that whenever you click on "eml" files and links..gmail opens up.


even if outlook is set as your email program, in the internet options menu.





so,what you have to do is change file type association.





now,open up windows (not internet) explorer.


go to the "tools" menu...choose "folder options" from the dropdown menu....


another window will pop-up...click on the "file types" tab....scroll down until you find ."eml"


click on "change"....choose "open with" then choose outlook from the list....done.





this happens when you install 3rd party programs for windows.some programs give you a dialog box asking if you want to open all file types with that program,but some don't have that option....

follow the Steps to mail it correct





1. Right Click on Taskbar and select Properties





2. Click on Start Menu Tab





3. Click on Customize button





4. in "Show on Start Menu" Area down there will be written Email and a DropDown Box will be there





5. click in Dropdown box and select Outlook





6. Select Ok ----%26gt;%26gt;%26gt; Ok

Reply:Maybe the mail set on that application is set default to Gmail.That's why it opens up to Gmail page.
